University College London Trial

Superior results in pocket depth, and significant whole mouth outcomes using first generation laser (150mW)

A 78 patient, examiner-blinded, single-centre study in the UK assessed the long-term efficacy and safety of the 150 mW, first generation Periowave™ Photodisinfection System. Results of the study demonstrated that treatment of chronic adult periodontitis by Scaling and Root Planing plus Periowave™ deployed in a year-long maintenance treatment protocol, was safe and more effective in reducing pocket depth (PD) versus SRP alone (p=0.02). The effects of the treatment protocol on PD reduction and gains in clinical attachment level (CAL) for all pockets in the mouth (i.e. including those not specifically treated with Periowave™) were highly significant (p<0.0001, p=0.005 respectively) over SRP Alone.
