Periowave is ideally suited for patients with peri-implantitis, endodontic disease, or 4+mm defect sites that bleed on probing. Periowave should be used following thorough scaling and root planing once post-instrumentation bleeding has been controlled. Treatment of contralateral sides of affected interproximal teeth is recommended. Deep pockets may require retreatment at 1-2 weeks from the initial treatment.

Patient outcomes should include a reduction or elimination of bleeding on probing, reduced inflammation, an improvement in gingival tissue tone and texture, a reduction in pocket depth and gain in clinical attachment level.

What to expect in the clinic:

Periowave is a painless and stress-free procedure for both the patient and the clinician. The treatment follows thorough scaling and root planing and can be carried out immediately or a few days later. In patients with chronic adult periodontitis, Periowave has been proven in clinical trials to significantly reduce pocket depth, bleeding on probing, and improve clinical attachment level.

Each laser treatment cycle is only 60 seconds. No heat is generated during treatment and therefore no tissue is burned. The selective action of the photosensitizing solution and light illumination avoids damage to healthy human tissue. The patient should experience no pain during this short light activation procedure. Deeper pockets may require a second or third treatment.
